The Atrium Living Wall

The Living Wall

In the atrium between Henry Marshall Tory Building and Business is the new living wall, a three pillar construction of numerous plants that went up this fall.  The Atrium also has plants at ground level that are different from the ones featured on the wall. What is not well known is that many of these spectacular plants in the Atrium actually clean the air. In a 1989 study by NASA, eleven different types of common indoor house plants were found to be most effective in removing toxins from the air:  http://www.scribd.com/doc/1837156/NASA-Indoor-Plants.

The question is that if the NASA study identified that 15 plants could clean a 1800 square foot home, how effective will the 1800+ plants be in cleaning the atrium air? In other words, next time you pass by the living wall take a deep breath and enjoy!
